Case Study: Syd – Border Terrier, 6 Years Old
Date: July 2024
Location: Herefordshire
Guardian: Jayne
Presenting Concerns:
Syd had recently started urinating in the house, drinking excessive amounts of water, and generally seemed a little ‘out of sorts’. There had also been some upheaval in the home, and we were concerned that he might be emotionally affected by the changes
Self-Selection Session:
Key Plant Nutrients Selected by Syd:
- Barley Grass (dry and wet): Syd showed a very strong attraction to this — he couldn’t seem to get enough. He consumed approximately five tablespoons and would likely have taken more. The next day he continued to show interest, though slightly less intensely.
Key Essential Oils Selected by Syd:
- German Chamomile: Immediately inhaled deeply and began pressing his shoulders and neck into Liz. She applied a small amount topically in those areas, which he clearly enjoyed.
- Seaweed Absolute: Again, strong interest. Syd was keen to lick it and showed repeated engagement.
- Peppermint & Fennel: He inhaled both deeply. While he didn’t lie down, his back leg began to twitch slightly afterwards, and he stood for a while, seemingly processing the experience.
- Wintergreen & St. John’s Wort: Moderate response, but not as engaged as with others above.
“The first time Liz worked with my border terrier Syd, he had been urinating in the house, drinking excessively, and seemed slightly low in mood. He responded very positively to the oils and powders he selected, and I noticed significant improvement in his behaviour after the session and with the top-up oils Liz left with us.
I was new to the practice of zoopharmacognosy, but I’ve found the process both fascinating and helpful. Liz offers a caring, professional, and highly informative service. Highly recommended.”
